Famous electric piano to go on display
The giant electric piano that appeared in 1988 movie Big is to go on display at a museum in Philadelphia.
Joseph and Janet Shein, who purchased the musical instrument following the release of the film, have donated it to the Please Touch Me museum, where it will be showcased later this month.
The Walking Piano, as it is known, helped to launch actor Tom Hanks to superstardom when he played Chopsticks and Heart and Soul on it alongside Robert Loggia in arguably one of the most iconic scenes of 1980s cinema.
At 16 ft, the three-octave keyboard is several times the length of an ordinary electric piano and is designed to be played using feet. The keys are all several inches wide and light up when pressed.
The instrument has been a fixture of the Shein's music room for two decades and the couple told the Philadelphia Inquirer that they still "love" the piece.Posted on 22 Jan 2009 13:47 to category : Instruments News
