Fender 'helping to bring together worlds of video games and music'

A pioneering Fender Stratocaster could encourage more gamers to pick up real musical instruments.

The Squier by Fender Stratocaster Guitar and Controller that has been specially designed for use with Rock Band 3 has been praised by a leading magazine.

According to the official Fender blog FrontRow, Guitar Player recently put the piece of equipment through its paces for its March issue and said the manufacturer should receive "kudos" for bringing together the segregated worlds of music and video games.

Reviewer Matt Blackett said the game was highly enjoyable, but no match for picking up a real musical instrument.

"No game can take the place of studying with a real teacher or jamming with real musicians - nor should it - but this is a brilliant complement to those pursuits," he explained.

"For any of us who have wanted a way to marry Rock Band and rock bands, this is absolutely what we've been waiting for."

The Squier by Fender Stratocaster Guitar and Controller works as a standalone electric guitar, as well as allowing gamers to strum along when playing Rock Band 3.

According to the manufacturer, the pioneering instrument has been made to provide enjoyment whether plugged into a traditional amp or linked up to a games console.
