Fictional band star in fresh Radio 2 show
The drama - a pilot episode at present - is about a group called Velveteens, and is set in the 1980s. It also includes a performance from Eastenders actor Shane Richie, according to BBC Radio 2.
The fictional band will be singing fresh material on the programme - Shout To The Top - combining these with songs from the period.
Its script has been praised by Richie, who takes the part of Vince, whose daughter is in the group.
The head of music at Radio 2 (which is set to air the drama and commissioned it) as well as 6 Music, Jeff Smith, called the show "a great original British drama for music radio".
"It is unique and distinctive and I don't think listeners will hear this kind of show on any other radio station," he claimed.
Other Radio 2 programmes include X Factor host Dermot O'Leary's regular Saturday afternoon show.
