File-sharing church officially recognised
The founders of the Church of Kopimism have declared that sharing information through copying and distribution, which they have dubbed as Kopyacting, is a central tenet of their religion.
Speaking to the BBC, Gustav Nipe, chairman of the newly established religion, said it took them three attempts to be fully recognised by the Swedish authorities, and marks an important step forward.
"For the Church of Kopimism, information is holy and copying is a sacrament", added Isak Gerson.
"Information holds a value, in itself and in what it contains and the value multiplies through copying. Therefore copying is central for the organisation and its members."
The BBC goes on to report that the followers of the new religion consider CTRL +C and CTRL +V (copy and paste) as sacred symbols.
"We challenge all copyright believers – most of which have a great deal of influence in politics, and who derive their power by limiting people's lives and freedom," the new church states on its website.
