Florence Welch 'began career as a drummer'
Florence Welch began her music career on the drums, the singer has revealed.
Speaking to the Autostraddle blog, the Florence and the Machine star explained that she was the drummer in her first band and that period in her life is still playing a part in her musical tastes.
"Hip hop is basically what I love right now … a lot of random hip hop influences in terms of samples and drums," she explained.
Welch added that when she was writing her debut album Lungs, her focus was on creating songs which were not tied to a particular time or place and instead looked into universal themes such as love and death.
Earlier this year, Welch told NME that she is planning to play the electric guitar on her next record.
She explained that some of the group's earliest tracks, such as Kiss With a Fist, featured her on the guitar and she was looking forward to using the instrument again.
