Florence and the Machine star: Gibson guitars played by the greats

Slash and Back to the Future helped build up Rob Ackroyd's love for Gibson guitars.
Great deals on musical instruments

Florence and the Machine guitarist Rob Ackroyd has revealed his devotion to Gibson instruments began at a young age.

Speaking to the Gibson Lifestyle blog, the musician explained he had seen a documentary on Les Paul as a youngster and soon realised many great electric guitars players used the company's products.

"As a kid, you only really know the big bands, so to see Keith Richards, Pete Townsend, Angus Young and John Lennon play Gibson was confirmation of the brand being the elite," he said.

Ackroyd revealed that he had been a huge fans of Guns N' Roses, meaning he was extremely keen to get the black double neck Gibson SG played by Slash.

He added that another inspiration had been the first Back to the Future film, where Michael J Fox's character Marty McFly plays a Gibson ES-345.

The guitarist is now enjoying success in his own career, with Florence and the Machine continuing to grow in popularity.

Last year, the act's album Lungs was the second-most listened to album on Spotify, with their track You've Got the Love being the seventh most popular track on the music streaming service.
