Focusrite have recently expanded their Saffire range with the new Focusrite Saffire Pro 24 DSP, and this month, Sound On Sound Magazine have been praising the unit within an in-depth review.

The addition of Digital Signal Processing (DSP) to the Saffire range has made both recording and mixing a much easier experience within any small studio.

The DSP provides latency free dynamics and EQ processing on the main inputs, as well as the possibility to add 'comfort reverb' to the input signal monitoring

This is an obvious advantage for a vocalist recording with a dry signal.

The second role of the DSP functionality is Virtual Reference Monitoring (VRM).

This has been created with those producers who mix using headphones in mind.

As Sound on Sound stated in their review the aim of VRM is to 'bring the natural acoustics of a real monitoring environment into the realm of headphones'.

The VRM system works through allowing the user to choose which audio environment and equipment they want to hear their music through.

Choices between different virtual environments, studio monitors (and their positions) and sub-speakers are all available.

The SOS review praised the VRM system for its accuracy, and the reviewer commented that 'by shutting my eyes I could force myself to believe I was in a different environment to the on I was actually in'.
