Frank Turner: Rock and Roll is a dumbed down art form
Frank Turner has show a strange way of supporting his music genre by dubbing rock and roll music as a "dumbed down art form".
The acoustic guitar player said that he didn't want rock and roll to be considered in the same category as classical music or metaphysical poetry because it was about the beauty of youth and not deeper musings.
Speaking to Kerrang! magazine, the former frontman of Million Dead, a hardcore British punk band, said: "It's a celebration of the adolescent impulses that stay with us for the rest of our lives: that desire to get drunk, dance, kiss pretty girls and stay up too late.
"Whenever it gets deeper than that, people have missed the point."
Turner recently released his fourth studio album England Keep My Bones earlier this month.
The title of the album is taken from Shakespeare's The Life and Death of King John.
Speaking to the online music news provider Mind Equals Blown ahead of its release, Turner said: "I knew that the album was about mortality and about Englishness. Shakespeare seemed like a good place to go hunting for some pearls of wisdom."
