George Harrison guitar amp to go under hammer
The guitar amp, a rare Vox UL730 amplifier, had been lost until it was accidentally found by Peter Hook, the former bass guitar player from Joy Division and New Order.
It is expected to sell for around £50,000-£70,000 when it goes on sale on December 15th, at Bonhams in Knightsbridge, London.
Stephen Maycock, Bonhams entertainment memorabilia consultant, said: "Very few amps used by the Beatles have come to auction before, and to find one that was used on two such significant albums is truly rare and exciting. Beatles fans all over the world will be eager to own such an important piece of music history."
Unknown to him, Hook had borrowed Harrison's amp without even knowing it. It was only after it had developed a fault and was being repaired that he found the former Beatles' name scratched on the chassis.
Upon further research, Hook found a picture of the Beatles and the amp that was now in his possession. It was a revelation like no other.
Yesterday (November 29th), marked the tenth anniversary of Harrison's death from lung cancer.
The Fab Four hero has been remembered lately in Martin Scorsese's candid documentary Living in the Material World.
