George Harrison 'was a ukulele aficionado'
George Harrison was a big fan of the ukulele and may have inspired Sir Paul McCartney to take up the instrument, it has been revealed.
According to the Guardian newspaper, he played the ukulele during his time in The Beatles.
The publication stated that the guitarist was a "big aficionado" of the instrument.
"His obsession must have rubbed off on bandmate Paul McCartney, who later played pseudonymously credited ukulele on the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band's I'm the Urban Spaceman," it added.
Earlier this month, the Montreal Gazette revealed in a live review of a show by Sir Paul in the city that he played a ukulele given to him by Harrison during the gig.
Writer Bernard Perusse said the bassist used the instrument on a rendition of his former bandmate's track Something.
Harrison died in 2001 following a battle with lung cancer, having released several acclaimed solo albums after John Lennon left the Beatles in 1969.
