Gibson SG 'still looks radical'

The Gibson SG has been praised for still looking distinctive and radical - nearly 50 years after it was first produced.

According to its manufacturer, the electric guitar has become an iconic and loved instrument since its inception in 1961.

Indeed, it has been widely used by many of the world's top rock musicians over the last half a century, including Pete Townshend of The Who, AC/DC's Angus Young and Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath.

"The new instrument was a bold design for Gibson, and it remains a bold performer almost 50 years later," it commented.

Gibson added that many of the SG's features set it apart from other electric guitars, including its explosive sound, sustain and woody resonance.

The company also noted that instrument's slim body and reduced weight is also very popular with many players.

This comes shortly after Robbie Krieger of The Doors told Guitarist magazine that Gibson SGs are his favourite electric guitars, partly because its two horns make it look like a "devil's pitchfork".
