Gibson SG 'used by host of stars'
According to Ted Drozdowski, a contributor to the Gibson Lifestyle blog, the tone, playability, neck-control and sustain are among the great features that make the SG so sought after.
He added the electric guitar has a fantastic history of being used by some of the world's best musicians.
"They include Pete Townshend, Eric Clapton, Duane Allman, The Edge, The Cars' Elliot Easton, Tony Iommi, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors' Robby Krieger, Carlos Santana and, of course, Frank Zappa," the commentator explained.
Mr Drozdowski added that Zappa managed to utilise his Gibson SG to come up with a distinctive "scalding tone", which he achieved through the use of on-board parametric equalisers.
This gave the musician the option to change frequencies, thereby helping to achieve his unique sound.
The legacy of Zappa is still being remembered to this day, with a concert featuring his music taking place in London last month.
Some of his songs were played by the Royal Academy of Music Manson Ensemble.
