Gibson acoustic guitar 'used by John Lennon on first Beatles single'
The first single from The Beatles featured John Lennon playing a new Gibson acoustic guitar.
Andrew Vaughan, a columnist for the Gibson Lifestyle blog, noted that Love Me Do was the debut track from the famous four-piece and explained the Gibson J-160E had an important role to play in its creation.
Beatles manager Brian Epstein purchased two of the acoustic guitars for the group in 1962, with one going to Lennon and the other being taken by George Harrison.
Lennon used his new instrument for the recording of Love Me Do, which went on to reach number 17 in the charts when it was first released, marking the first step for The Beatles on their path to global success.
He went on to use it for the next year before it was stolen, getting a replacement version in 1964 ahead of the group's famous tour of America.
The music of The Beatles was recently made available for the first time on iTunes.
Their 13 studio albums made during their career, as well as the Past Masters compilation and Red and Blue collections, can now be downloaded via the Apple portal.
