Gibson announces new Nirvana inspired bass guitar
In celebration of the 20th anniversary of Nirvana's classic album Nevermind, Gibson has announced the release of the Krist Novoselic Signature RD bass guitar.
The sleek, shiny ebony black bass guitar is shaped in the image of RD guitars, which were first introduced by the company back in the 70s.
Novoselic, who is currently chair of the US electoral reform organisation, FairVote, was bass player and co-founder of Nirvana along with Kurt Cobain. Dave Grohl was a late edition.
Gibson said: “To honour this musician's impact on the sound of contemporary rock, Gibson USA presents the Krist Novoselic Signature RD Bass, an instrument primed with unparalleled playability and powerful contemporary tones, all dressed in an alternative style that countless modern bassists will appreciate."
The bass guitar, which is made out of solid maple – gives the guitar "punch" and clarity – features independent volume controls and a master tone pot.
It also comes with a pair of noise-cancelling single-coil Seymour Duncan pick-ups.
In a press release sent out at the time, the company said: "Fender craftsmen have reproduced Cobain's battle-hardened left-handed Jaguar down to the last unusual detail, including its worn finish, dual humbucking pickups and unique electronics and controls."
