Gibson commends distortion pioneers
Musicians can now use a guitar effects pedal or overdriven guitar amp to get a suitably distorted sound.
However, Gibson said the idea of having distortion on records was largely frowned upon by studio engineers up until the late 1960s.
The change in attitude came about because electric guitar players became increasingly adventurous in their efforts to create new tones.
Dave Davies of The Kinks was cited as one of the first champions of recorded distortion, as it is this that makes the sound of their hit You Really Got Me so distinctive.
The company said this helped The Kinks to create "one classic and rocking track".
This comes shortly after frontman Ray Davies told the Independent that while he does miss being in The Kinks, a band reunion is not likely to happen.Posted on 15 Jul 2009 16:00 to category : Instruments News
