Gibson commends the late John Lee Hooker
The musician, who died in June 2001, was well known for playing Gibson electric guitars during his career, which produced classics such as Boom Boom, Dimples, Hobo Blues and Huckle Up Baby.
According to the manufacturer, his work served to influence generations of later musicians, including The Animals, George Thorogood and ZZ Top.
Indeed, Gibson noted that Hooker "patented the chugging muted-and-strummed" sound well before his breakthrough in 1948 with Boogie Chillen.
The company described the song as the "foundation for guitar boogie" and an "anthem for youthful rebellion".
Gibson added that this is highly notable as it occurred half a decade before Elvis Presley began his recording career.
Boogie Chillen has been covered by many notable acts over the years, including The White Stripes, Van Morrison and Led Zeppelin.
Acts such as Cream and The Yardbirds have also performed Hooker compositions as part of their repertoire.Posted on 25 Aug 2009 13:30 to category : Band / Celebrity News
