Gibson hails classic guitar riffs
Paperback Writer by The Beatles, which came out in 1966, was flagged up as one gem, as the McCartney-written riff is "more propulsive" than any other riff in history.
You Really Got Me by The Kinks was also included on the list, as its signature riff helped to create the genre which became heavy metal.
"It continues to send chills 45 years later," it commented.
The guitar manufacturer added that while the likes of Chuck Berry and Eddie Cochran had devised some great riffs in the 1950s, it only became an art form during the following decade.
This comes shortly after Velvet Revolver star Slash told the Times that the riff to You Really Got Me is one of his all-time favourites, along with Over Under Sideways Down by The Yardbirds and Whole Lotta Love by Led Zeppelin.Posted on 6 Jun 2010 10:00 to category : Band / Celebrity News
