Gibson hails legendary backing guitarists

Gibson has praised the guitar players who backed up two of the world's best-known artists.

Electric guitar manufacturer Gibson has hailed some of the musicians who backed up major stars on some of their most seminal records.

Legendary vocalist Elvis Presley would have turned 75 last week, on the same day that enduring pop icon David Bowie reached his 63rd birthday.

Gibson stated that on the surface, these two artists have very little in common.

However, it said they do share one notable similarity - many of their records feature some truly great backing guitarists.

Indeed, Gibson stated that Elvis was very fortunate to have guitar players such as Scotty Moore and James Burton on his records.

The manufacturer said Bowie was also lucky to have worked with "some of rock's most magnificent players" over the years.

Gibson singled out Earl Slick, Robert Fripp and Stevie Ray Vaughan as notable examples, as well as the late Mick Ronson, who appeared on early Bowie classics such as Life on Mars? and Changes.
