Gibson launches search for greatest guitarist
Music lovers are being asked to consider who is the greatest guitar player of all time by musical instrument manufacturer Gibson, which is running a vote on its website to help to discover the answer.
Gibson said it expects the contest to be a hotly-debated affair, with many potential winners for people to choose from.
"They called Eric Clapton 'God', but was he even better than Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck or Jimi Hendrix? And of contemporary players, what about Slash and Joe Bonamassa?," the company asked.
It added that a case might be made for musical innovators such as Les Paul, Chuck Berry and Muddy Waters.
The voting process is open until May 15th 2010, with the top 50 guitar players being announced on May 27th.
