Gibson name Waukesha a GuitarTown

Gibson have named Waukesha a GuitarTown, notable for being the birthplace of Les Paul.
His hometown is now a GuitarTown
Gibson has announced that Waukesha in Wisconsin is to become a GuitarTown.

The birthplace of music legend Les Paul, who is renowned for his pioneering work in developing the solid body electric guitar, will see a ten-foot fibreglass sculptural Gibson guitar erected in the city.

Other similar "regulation-sized" Gibson Les Paul electric guitars will be put up around the city.

They usually stay up for a determined amount of time before being auctioned off to raise money for local charities and not-for-profit organisations.

It is unknown if this will be the case in Waukesha, given its connection with Les Paul.

Henry Juszkiewicz, chief executive of Gibson, said in a statement: "We're delighted to bring the Gibson GuitarTown project to the birthplace of Les Paul. It's exciting to give back to the town that produced the legend."

The city's mayor, Jeff Scrima, added: "Thankfully Mr Juszkiewicz said ‘yes to Waukesha. Based upon the other GuitarTown cities, this is truly a privilege for Waukesha."

"It has to be said, we must all own up that without Les Paul, generations of flash little punks like us would be in jail or cleaning toilets," Rolling Stones legend Keith Richards once stated.

"This man, by his genius, made the road we still travel today. I don't know how he did it, but I'm so grateful he did."
