Gibson names overlooked electric guitar legends
Time magazine recently named who it believes are the best electric guitarists in history and put Jimi Hendrix in first place, while Jimmy Page, BB King, Chuck Berry, Slash and Eric Clapton were also included in the top ten.
Although Gibson acknowledged that any such list is entirely subjective, it said the omission of names such as Jeff Beck had left it scratching its collective head.
Beck was praised for being one of the most versatile and innovative electric guitar players of all time, both as a member of The Yardbirds and as a solo artist.
George Harrison of The Beatles was also flagged up as a notable omission, as his playing "provided a hand-in-glove fit" to whatever a certain track required.
Gibson highlighted the band's 1969 hit Something as a good example, as it showed Harrison playing with "stately elegance".
By contrast, the 1965 b-side I'm Down was said to show him performing with a "raucous clamour" that perfectly suited the song.Posted on 24 Aug 2009 14:00 to category : Band / Celebrity News
