Glasvegas have a new woman behind the drum kit following the departure of Caroline McKay earlier this year.

The Scottish band have recruited Joana Lofgren from Sweden to be their new member, reports NME.

James Allan, the frontman of Glasvegas, said McKay had decided to leave the group after the pressures of being in a successful band started to get to her.

He said the frenetic touring and recording schedule Glasvegas were adhering to, along with the level of fame they were beginning to attain, was not what she wanted.

"Everybody's cool with each other. Caroline could have stayed and taken the money but she left," the singer explained.

He revealed Lofgren had been picked out by the record label after guitarist Rab Allan asked them to find a Swedish female drummer.

She will be playing with the band as they head out on a special tour of Scotland next month as part of their return to the live music scene.

Glasvegas are to perform in a range of intimate venues usually missed out by top bands, with gigs scheduled to take place in Wick, Forres and Oban.

The tour will get underway on January 6th when they visit Orkney.
