Goldie's underdog inspiration
Goldie credits his entire career with being an underdog.
The drum 'n' bass DJ said he owes his career to the fact he wasn't an instant success, meaning he's constantly had to work hard to better himself throughout his career - which has seen him primarily act as a musician, but also included work as a street artist, actor and breakdancer.
He explained: "Maybe my learning curve is the fact I don't come first? That's part of what makes Goldie what he is.
"It's all about coming second or third and striving to get better. Let me put it another way: If my record was a number one record, do you think I'd be able to respect all that power? Not at all."
Even though Goldie, 45, has starred as a villain in James Bond film 'The World Is Not Enough' and in gangster film 'Snatch' and made a number of appearances on mainstream TV in the UK, he maintains he will always be an underground figure, and never compromise his musical integrity.
He added to Now magazine: "I've always done the unexpected. Looking back , it's just progressions of what I wanted to do.
"I've never compromised my music and my art. Goldie the brand can get involved with lots of different things on the overground, but I still play underground music every Saturday night and I always have done. I've spent 25 years involved in urban culture, so I can do what the hell I want!Posted on 6 Oct 2010 06:45 to category : Music News
