Gorillaz take Glastonbury headline slot
Gorillaz have been announced as the replacement for U2 as headliners for this year's Glastonbury Festival.
The Irish band pulled out earlier this week after doctors told Bono he needed eight weeks to recover from emergency surgery on his back.
Their place on the Pyramid Stage on May 25th 2010 will now be taken by Gorillaz, the creation of electric guitar player and Blur frontman Damon Albarn.
Michael Eavis, the organiser of Glastonbury Festival, said he was very excited about their performance.
"It'll be a massive audio-visual spectacle which will really ignite the Pyramid on the Friday night, with Muse, then Stevie Wonder to follow," he stated.
The Friday of the event will also see the likes of Vampire Weekend, Dizzee Rascal, Snoop Dogg, Corinne Bailey Rae and Rolf Harris playing on the Pyramid Stage.
Eavis said the eclectic line-up would be a "perfect, contemporary way to kick off the 40th anniversary celebrations" for Glastonbury.Posted on 27 May 2010 11:29 to category : Band / Celebrity News
