br /> Although he will not personally attend the event, which is being held at the London International Music Show later this month, he will judge the participants by watching footage of them playing, reports Mi Pro.

Vai, who has worked with acts such as Whitesnake, Frank Zappa, David Lee Roth and Ozzy Osborne, will be joined by other acclaimed guitarists including Lee Hodgson and Nick Andrews to pick the ultimate winner.

He is well-qualified to pick the winner of the Guitar Idol contest, as he has been widely lauded as a virtuoso rock musician.

Indeed, his playing has been distinguished by the use of many different styles, including speed picking, pinch harmonics, finger tapping and even using a seven-string electric guitar.

According to the organisers of the event, finalists will get the opportunity to play live in front of thousands of people and be spotted by some of the biggest names in the music industry.
