Guitar bands continue to gross millions
Electric guitar-based rock looks unlikely to go out of fashion, as fans are still flocking to see classic rock bands such as The Rolling Stones.
Mick, Keith and co were named at the top of Billboard's list of the top touring artists of the decade, ahead of U2.
The Stones performed 264 shows which were attended by more than eight million people, while almost 200 of the shows were complete sell-outs.
As a result, their tour grossed a staggering £533 million.
The legendary band have notched up a string of hits and memorable electric guitar riffs over the last 45 years, including The Last Time, Honky Tonk Women and (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction.
Their enduring appeal and prowess on the live stage recently prompted rumours that they would be headlining the Glastonbury Festival in 2010.
However, it has since been confirmed that U2, who came second in Billboard's list, will top the bill next summer.Posted on 11 Dec 2009 16:00 to category : Band / Celebrity News
