Guitar tutor recommends 'buy the best you can afford'
An experienced guitar teacher and musician has recommended that those looking to pick up the instrument for the first time purchase the best that their finances allow.
Jim Seales of country band Shenandoah told TimesDaily.com's Russ Corey that there "are some great student guitars" available from music shops for low prices, but people should still attempt to acquire the best they can.
"I recommend buying the best guitar you can afford," he remarked, adding that it would be wise to get an experienced guitarist to help with choosing the model.
Other tips offered by Mr Seales include practising for 30 to 40 minutes a night for those just wanting to have fun and four to five hours a night for those who wish to be studio musicians.
He also said that people do not necessarily need a tutor to help them learn the instrument, "but there comes a point when a teacher is so important".
BB King, Carlos Santana and Jimmy Page are among the group of great guitarists to have taught themselves.Posted on 17 Apr 2009 15:23 to category : Tips and advice
