Guitarist Billy Strange has died
Strange was a prolific musician and well-respected in the industry for his ability to bring consistent quality to recording sessions.
His heyday back in the 50s and 60s also saw him work with the legendary crooner Nat King Cole, penned a number one single for Chubby Checker and even produced the classic tune These Boots Are Made For Walking for Nancy Sinatra.
"I have played every kind of music in the world," he told an Australian news provider in 2010.
"I've played rock and roll, did all the surf records, played with big orchestras. If they needed somebody in a small group who knew what the hell they were doing in the studio, that was me."
A busy man, he also worked with Dean Martin, Phil Spector, Willie Nelson and the Everly Brothers.
But the work he did with Presley remained a particular highlight.
"I was staying at a hotel in Nashville in 1965 when my telephone rang and this unmistakable voice said, 'Billy, this is Elvis. I'd like for you to stop by my studios and play some music with me,'" the Los Angeles Times quoted him as saying once.
"I was absolutely thrilled, so I went along and he just sat at the piano playing gospel songs."
