Gun-guitar gets a permanent home in museum
Cesar Lopez is not your typical rock star. When he’s not busy jamming on his electric guitar to his army of fans, he’s working as a United Nation (UN) messenger of non-violence in Colombia.
The six-stringed "gun-guitar" as it has been dubbed will now be permanently housed in the museum as part of a collection of peace memorabilia.
This forms just one part of the UN Nation’s Office on Drugs and Crime’s peace programme, which operates all around the world.
It is one of 17 gun-guitars that were commissioned by the UN to promote peace.
Speaking to IANS, Lopez said: "There is one such guitar in Berlin, one at the Unesco office in Brazil, Argentinia and Vienna.
"The work is very complex. The bullet-chamber of the gun, the trigger and the safety latch had to be sealed off and a wooden string board with the frets had to be fitted to the gun to put the strings."
He added he will ask for it back for one day to play at a festival where he will spread the message of peace and love.Posted on 1 Nov 2011 10:24 to category : Instruments News
