Hopkins 'a good starting point' for budding blues players
Guitar players looking to master the blues will find few better places to start than trying to ape the style of Texas legend Samuel Lightnin' Hopkins.
"Hopkins is such a great entry point for budding players who really want to sink their teeth into blues in a deep way," Mr Drozdowski wrote.
He claimed that in one five-minute space on The Complete Aladdin Recordings album Hopkins shows how it is possible to go through every conceivable emotion using just three chords.
For those looking to emulate Hopkins, Mr Drozdowski advises that acoustic and electric guitars are both fine, but recommends that those playing the latter use a pedal or turn up the gain on their amps to add some "dirt" to the sound.
Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan and John Frusciante of The Red Hot Chili Peppers are said to have been influenced by Hopkins' playing style.Posted on 24 Mar 2009 11:13 to category : Instruments News
