Humber Bridge To Be Transformed Into Giant Instrument

Humber Bridge
Humber Bridge
Humber bridge, the Uk's longest suspension bridge, is being transformed into a colossal instrument in 2017. Real life sounds will be captured by the homegrown Hull sound artist Jez Riley French and then performed by the orchestra and chorus of Opera North.

The bridges unique musicality will be entirely dependent on the weather and its surrounding climate with the listener being able to hear a multitude of differing sounds that are subject to the route that they take at the time.

The ambitious undertaking is to be a collaboration between Norwegian trumpeter Arve Henriksen, Jan Band and Eivind Arset who have been assigned as the resident musicians for the entirerty of the crossing.

The Humber Bridge project is part of a wider £32m programme that is set to set alive the streets and venues of Hull in the coming year, celebrating the culture and artistic merit of the North.
