Iggy Pop named as Record Store Day ambassador
Founded in 2007 by Eric Levin, Carrie Colliton, Amy Dorfman, Michael Kurtz, Brian Poehner and Don Van Cleave, the increasingly popular event is a celebration of the "unique culture of over 700 independently owned record stores in the USA" and similar stores across the world.
The appointment of Iggy, famous for tracks like Candy, Real Wild Child, Lust For Life and China Girl, is said to be a scoop.
It will take place on April 21st and see artists and record stores come together to produce special releases and performances.
"A person should have a personality," said Iggy in a statement.
"You won't get one [playing] around on a computer. It helps to go somewhere where there are other persons. Persons who are interested in something you are. That's how a record store or any shop that's got some life to it should work. It's not about selling [stuff]."
He went on to say that he got his name, his music education and personality through working hard at a record store when he was a youngster.
"Small indie shops have always been a mix of theatre and laboratory," he added.
