Iron Maiden's 21 number ones
Iron Maiden have scored a number one album in twenty one countries.
The British heavy metal pioneers' 'The Final Frontier' album has dominated charts across Europe, Japan and South America since its release on August 16.
However, despite the incredible reception from fans and reviewers alike, the band remain close to their humble roots, and actively shy away from celebrity.
Singer Bruce Dickinson said: "I loathe all the celebrity crap - all the minders, the backstage glamour and the glitzy b******s.
"We hate it all. We are all about the music. If we could beam ourselves back home after a show, we'd go to the shops as if nothing had happened.
"The rest is just fluff. It's nice but it's b******s in the grand scheme of things."
The countries where Iron Maiden's fifteenth studio album is currently number one include: The UK, Austria Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Finland, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.
Explaining the band's intentions for the album, guitarist Adrian Smith said: "We always set out to come up with the strongest songs possible, melodies, and try and do what Iron Maiden does best... I'm moved into different areas to more progressive pieces, more intricate, which I think is the band's forte. It was pretty much was a group effort, probably more than in the past."
Since forming in 1975 and releasing their debut album in 1980, Iron Maiden - which also includes bassist Steve Harris, drummer Nicko McBrain and guitarists Adrian Smith and Janick Gers - have sold over 80 million records worldwide.Posted on 26 Aug 2010 16:30 to category : Music News
