Jani Lane found dead
Jani Lane, the former frontman for the glossy "hair metal" rock band Warrant, has been found dead in a motel room in California.
The singer, who was 47, was discovered at the Comfort Inn hotel in Woodland Hills.
No cause of death has yet to be established.
Lane had a history of problems with alcohol and had been arrested twice for drink-driving.
The band Warrant was most famous for its song Cherry Pie, which, when released in 1989, caused outrage because of the saucy video that accompanied it.
Stars took to the social networking sights to express their sadness at the news.
The wrestler Chris Jericho, who recently performed on Dancing on the Stars, said: "Sad to hear about the passing of Jani Lane.
"Jani was a good guy and one of the best songwriters in the late 80s Dog Eat Dog-very underrated."
Bret Michaels wrote on Twitter: "We'd like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of Jani Lane regarding their loss. Respectfully, Bret and all at MEGI."
He is survived by a wife and four children.
