Jarvis Cocker becomes a book editor

The Pulp star has been appointed as editor-at-large by Faber and Faber.

Jarvis Cocker has added another string to his bow so to speak as he is to join the world of book publishing.

The Pulp singer, who has dabbled in TV presenting and has a successful radio show, has joined Faber and Faber as editor-at-large.

His appointment follows a similar one made back in the 1980s, when Pete Townshend of The Who worked with Faber on similar music-related book projects.

Lee Brackstone, from Faber, said: "Jarvis felt like a natural fit with the Faber sensibility, both as author and editor, and I'm sure the small list of books he will develop will represent his eccentric and yet popular touch.

"We now have an excellent portfolio of authors from the pop world and our intention is to develop these relationships and continue to build a reputation as the home for exciting and original writing on music."

Cocker himself releases his first book Mother, Brother, Lover next week.

"I am proud, and more than a little excited, to be asked to work with Faber in an editorial capacity. It is my dearest hope that we will produce some fantastic books together," Cocker said.
