Jay-Z fan Alison Mosshart
Alison Mosshart is influenced by Jay-Z.
The Dead Weather singer - who is also a member of The Kills with Jamie Hince - has fallen in love with the rapper's music and listened to it a lot while she was recording the Dead Weather's upcoming second LP 'Sea of Cowards'.
When quizzed on her favourite records and artists, she said: "I can't really live without my Captain Beefheart records, Fugazi, Velvet Underground, John Lee Hooker and Jay-Z anymore either - he's amazing! He is quite important to me."
Despite her love of Jay-Z, Alison thinks 'Sea of Cowards' is a "dark" record, which is a direct reflection of her and her bandmates - Jack White, Dean Fertita and Jack Lawrence.
The 31-year-old singer added in an interview with ArtistDirect.com: "I think it's definitely a heavier record, so maybe it is a darker record. I think we're quite a dark band. When I listen to it, it blows my face off a little bit. I don't know where it came from, again. It's one of those mysterious things. I couldn't tell you where the songs are from. We wrote a lot of this material when we were on the road - during soundchecks and such. We were put in that live mode. You're playing like there are 2,000 people watching."Posted on 12 May 2010 16:30 to category : Music News
