John Frusciante takes 'Axe Factor' crown
Former Red Hot Chili Peppers star John Frusciante has won a vote to find the best electric guitar player of the past 30 years.
More than 30,000 people voted in the BBC 6 Music poll, which saw Frusciante named as the eventual winner ahead of guitarists such as Prince, Jack White and REM's Peter Buck.
Second place in the poll went to Slash, formerly of Guns N' Roses, with third position going to Matt Bellamy of Muse.
Other guitarists in the top ten included Jonny Greenwood from Radiohead and ex-Smiths star Johnny Marr.
Shaun Keaveny, co-host of the results show, said Frusciante was a worthy winner.
"His range, from minimalist melody lines, through choppy Hendrixian chord voicings all the way up to 11 with wailing metal tinged blues, gives him the edge over many in the list," he said.
Earlier this year, Josh Klinghoffer, Frusciante's replacement in the Red Hot Chili Peppers, made his first appearance with the band at the MusiCares Person of the Year dinner.Posted on 12 Apr 2010 09:11 to category : Music News
