John Frusciante teams up with Mars Volta star for charity album
John Frusciante, the former electric guitar player in the Red Hot Chili Peppers, has teamed up with the Mars Volta's Omar Rodriguez Lopez to bring out a charity album.
The pair are to release the instrumental record, which is simply named Omar Rodriguez Lopez and John Frusciante, to help raise money for the Keep Music in Schools charity programme.
Fans are being asked to set their own price for downloading the record, in a similar move to the one performed by Radiohead when they first made In Rainbows available online.
According to the duo, most of the album was "recorded many years ago", but the majority of the music on it has not been made public until now.
Frusciante was recently named as the most talented guitar player of the past 30 years in a vote conducted by BBC 6 Music.
He beat the likes of Slash and Matt Bellamy of Muse to claim the top spot.
