Television presenter John Inverdale has revealed he is keen to learn how to play the guitar properly.

Speaking to the Scottish edition of the Big Issue, Inverdale – who hosts rugby and tennis coverage for the BBC - said that one of the biggest regrets in his life so far is not being able to play any kind of musical instrument.

"I used to go on rugby tours all over the world and nothing is better on a rugby tour than someone who can pick up a guitar or sit at a piano and play," the star said.

He added that he owns a guitar and is attempting to learn the basics at the moment.

Inverdale revealed that he is hoping to get some pointers from a "tennis rock band" that gets together during the Wimbledon tournament and is made up of former players including Pat Cash and John McEnroe.

Earlier this month, musician Richard Thompson told the Daily Telegraph that he believes the enduring popularity of the guitar is down to the fact it is easy for people to pick up and play.
