John Lennon's microphone going up for sale
One of John Lennon's microphones is being put up for auction along with other items of Beatles memorabilia.
The microphone in question was one used while recording Imagine and is being sold as part of a collection from Ascot Sound Studios, where the famed album was recorded.
Lennon built the studio in the grounds of Tittenhurst Park, Berkshire in the 1970s and later sold it to his bandmate Ringo Starr.
The online sale will take place on May 11th and is expected to raise £300,000.
The microphone alone is likely to fetch around £5,000.
Hamish Jackson, who is organising the auction for sales firm mjQ, told the Evening Standard: "This equipment has such a fantastic heritage, and the build quality back then was so good, that it is all still in working order. Anything involving The Beatles will always be popular.
“My father ran an auction in 1980 of stuff from Abbey Road, and a roll of toilet paper which had property of EMI stamped on every sheet sold for £500. A few years ago, the same roll was on eBay for £30,000.”
As well as the microphone, other items going on sale include tape machines and a coffee percolator used by Starr.
The album Imagine was released in 1971 and included the singles Imagine and Jealous Guy.Posted on 2 May 2011 16:04 to category : Band / Celebrity News
