John Lydon's peaceful performance

Former Sex Pistols rocker John Lydon has revealed he can only come to terms with the death of his father when he performs live on stage, where he finds ''peace'' with the situation.
Great deals on musical instruments

John Lydon uses live performances to cope with the death of his father.

The British rocker - who shot to fame with the Sex Pistols and then formed Public Image Ltd (PiL) in 1978 after the group split - was devastated when his dad John Christopher passed away last year, but admits he finds peace when he's performing on stage.

He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "My father's death last year really woke me up. It's a harsh reality being without two parents and I get to grips with that by performing live. It's a shame that it takes death to reaffirm my love of life."

The 54-year-old star reformed PiL last year, after ending a brief reformation with Sex Pistols three years prior to that.

Although both bands have been important to him and his career, John admits his work with PiL represents him better.

He explained: "PiL songs are wrapped up in a personal experience. I'm soul-searching. PiL explains me better than the Pistols. I'm not some cold, indifferent pop star. The media tried to wrap me up as that back then, but people who come to enjoy PiL know I'm more than that.

"We get old faces and young fans and they are not disappointed. PiL's understanding and skill is excellent. At any moment we can improvise and take the songs into a different area of exploration, which is wonderful."
