John Peel's records get digital
The John Peel Centre and the Arts Council are working on making accessible 25,000 vinyl LPs through a project named The Space, reported the BBC.
"We're very happy that we've finally found a way to make John's amazing collection available to his fans, as he would have wanted," said Sheila Ravenscroft, Peel's widow.
Tom Baker, director of the John Peel Centre, explained the idea of the project was an answer to the question "What is in John Peel's record collection?"
"We hope that giving them access to a particular band or their first album or listening to his show will inspire people to tell us their stories," he told the BBC.
Mr Baker stated that this was one of the most important archives in modern music history.
Peel was an extremely well respected radio presenter, known for his ability to predict future hits and for not identifying himself with one type of music genre.
