Jonathan Ross's BBC departure 'could harm music industry'

Emerging musical talent in the UK could lose out if the BBC's departing star Jonathan Ross is not replaced, according to an expert.

Aspiring electric guitar players, bassists and drummers could lose valuable media coverage after Jonathan Ross leaves the BBC, an expert has warned.

According to James Sandom of Supervision Management, Ross's Friday evening show was one of the only avenues for developing artists to guarantee mass TV exposure.

Therefore, he believes emerging stars could lose out if the BBC does not replace the controversial star, who this week announced he is quitting.

Speaking to NME, Mr Sandom said: "Like him or loathe him, it's undeniable Jonathan Ross has given artists one of the few platforms to reach a mainstream audience in the UK."

He urged the BBC to introduce a new show that offers similar opportunities to rising stars, as it is badly needed by both the artists themselves and the wider music industry.

Ross's decision to quit comes in the wake of controversy over his pay, as well as his suspension after lewd phones calls were made to former Fawlty Towers actor Andrew Sachs.
