Jools Holland calls for youngsters to engage with music
Speaking to the Telegraph, the musician and broadcaster said instruments such as pianos used to be a staple feature of the living room.
However, he believes this tradition has been lost over the years, partly because of the emergence of television.
Holland cited the modern culture of instant celebrity as another factor that has stopped people picking up musical instruments, as more and more people are seeking fame with the aid of backing tracks.
"It's all rather sad," he commented.
"Karaoke's rather meaningless."
Holland added that he does not believe he would have been successful in any job other than being a musician.
As a result, he believes he is very fortunate to have what he described as "the best job in the world".
Holland first rose to prominence as a member of the band Squeeze, which enjoyed hits such as Up the Junction and Cool for Cats.Posted on 4 Jan 2010 19:00 to category : Instruments News
