Judge says Prince has to pay £2.4 million for his own perfume

Prince may be £2.4 million out of pocket if a second judge confirms the star must pay a perfume company compensation for not honouring his contract.

Perfume has never cost someone as much as it might do superstar musician Prince, who could be forced to pay out around $4 million (approximately £2.4 million) to Revelations Perfume And Cosmetics Inc. A judge in New York has backed the perfume company's claim that the diminutive singer has failed to promote their 3121 fragrance, the name of which references Prince's 2006 [studio](http://www.gear4music.com/Studio-Equipment.html) album. The company, which acquired the license to the soul singer's name, likeness and album title, launched the lawsuit arguing that he had reneged on his promise to help promote the product when it was launched in 2007. According to official documents, the Purple Rain hitmaker refuses to make any public appearances attached to the perfume, which included snubbing interviews with big names like Oprah Winfrey, Whoopi Goldberg and Ebony magazine. Lawyers speaking on behalf of Prince have argued against the claim and will continue in their fight against having to pay out the compensation. Although the judge has recommended Prince make the payout, the decision still needs backing by another judge. The final decision will be made in November.
