Julian Lloyd Webber 'always determined to play the cello'
Musician Julian Lloyd Webber has revealed that he felt a calling to play the cello from an early age.
His mother was a piano teacher but Lloyd Webber found that instrument hard to master and was soon converted to the joys of the cello after attending a concert at which it was played at the age of four.
"I was always determined to play the cello - I felt it spoke to me," he told the Courier.
"It's a very personal instrument and I think it's the nearest instrument to the human voice."
Lloyd Webber added that music has been a hugely important part of his life and personal identity.
The musician is embarking on a UK tour this month, with recitals planned in venues in Wellingborough, Dunfermline, Worcester and Aylesbury.
He is also lined up to appear on BBC Radio 2 show Friday Night is Music Night on November 26th.
