Katy Perry makes ABBA album
Katy Perry's new album has been inspired by ABBA and The Cardigans.
The 'Hot N Cold' hitmaker - whose second album is due to be released in the summer - gave songwriter Lukasz 'Dr. Luke' Gottwald a mixtape with the Swedish pop legends' songs and "lots of 90s stuff" which had influenced her, so they could craft songs to make "people bounce up and down".
Katy, 25, told Hitfix.com: "The new album is going to be more groove driven and be about making people dance because when I went on tour, as much as I love all the in-between songs, I felt I was missing some of the stuff that made people bounce up and down and I really love that feeling when people are all jumping in unison."
Dr. Luke - who has co-written six tracks for Katy's as yet untitled LP - said: "I listened to all the stuff and sort of got the vibe of what she was doing and then tried to make ideas for her and we started writing together."
Although Katy had a clear idea of the sound she wanted for the album, it was hard work for the pair to come up with a final tracklisting they were completely happy with.
She added: "We worked in Santa Barbara, we worked in Los Angeles. I was telling everybody I had a lot of jewels, but I didn't have the crown and, then, I finally got the crown so all the jewels made sense.
"And now I have this thing, this crown that I'm ready to present."
Katy previously worked with Dr. Luke on her debut album, 'One Of The Boys'.
This week, he was honoured at The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) Awards as Songwriter of the Year in 2008 for his work on songs such as Katy's 'Hot N' Cold' and 'I Kissed a Girl'.Posted on 23 Apr 2010 10:00 to category : Music News
