Keith Richards and co toast Hubert Sumlin
The event, Howlin for Hubert, which took place at New York's Apollo Theatre, saw Richards on fine form, strumming his electric guitar as if it were 'business as normal'.
Dressed in his typically flamboyant attire, which saw him in a Fedora and a long, shiny green scarf, the 68-year-old kicked off his set with a moody take on Going Down Slow.
Eric Clapton, long time pal of Richards, also wowed fans with his singing and guitar-playing.
It was a fitting tribute to Sumlin, who passed away in December last year at the age of 80.
He was best known for his 20 year stint as part of the Howlin' Wolf band, providing an imitable style of playing that saw him become a well-liked figure on the jazz and blues scene.
The event had originally been scheduled when Sumlin was alive, in part to celebrate his birthday and his contribution to music.
His manager Toni Ann Mamary recounted what he had said to her before he sadly passed away: "'I'm gonna be there. I don't care if I play – I'm going to be there.' Can you feel him?"
