Keith Richards picked as greatest guitar player by Steven Van Zandt
Keith Richards has been chosen as the best guitar player in the world by Bruce Springsteen's long-time collaborator Steven Van Zandt.
Speaking to Guitar World, Van Zandt said he felt the Rolling Stones star deserved the accolade for helping to change how the musical instrument could be played during the 1960s.
"I grew up on Keith Richards and his lead on the Stones' versions of Chuck Berry songs helped reinvent the guitar for Beck, Clapton and Jimmy Page," Van Zandt explained.
Van Zandt, who is also known for playing Silvio Dante in The Sopranos, added that his own opinion of guitar playing is based on the idea that solos must only be employed if they serve the song.
Earlier this month, it was announced that a DVD of Bruce Springsteen's gig at Hyde Park last summer, which featured Van Zandt, is to be released later this year.
Footage of Springsteen's headline performance at Glastonbury Festival will also be included on the disc.Posted on 29 Apr 2010 12:00 to category : Instruments News
