Kelis' steady celebrity

'Acapella' singer Kelis claims to have sold ''just enough records to not have to get a regular job''.
Great deals on musical instruments

Kelis has sold "just enough records to not have to get a regular job".

The 'Acapella' singer has had a turbulent career, with huge chart hits in 'Milkshake', 'Trick Me' and 'Millionaire' but slow albums sales, which have seen her dropped from three record labels.

She insists she is, however, happy with her level of fame, telling NME magazine: "I've never been someone that everyone understood or accepted, and that's always been fine with me. But the catch 22 is that I have a really good life.

"I make good money, I travel the world, just enough to maintain a sense of normality. I've sold just enough records to not have to get a regular job but just under the amount where I become public property, like I can be sort of politically incorrect and sort of get away with it."

Kelis' lack of "political incorrectness" has seen her incur the wrath of animal rights group PETA, whom she wrote an open letter to after sent correspondence to her urging her not to wear fur.

She stands by her decision to appear in a mink coat however, adding: "I'm sorry if a mink is last on my list. I care about children, and people with no food or healthcare. I care about things that affect the human population."

'Flesh Tone' is released on Black Eyed Peas singer will.i.am's record label, will.i.am music group, on May 17.
